Question about housing.
« on: May 10, 2009, 02:59:28 AM »
We just left Fort Leonard Wood 11 months ago...PCS'ed to Alaska. Well the Army wants us back in Fort Leonard Wood!

Does anyone know if the new company is any better...I know we had a few issues with the last people as far as work orders and such. Also are they still building a lot? I am hoping we aren't on a waiting list for months and months!

Thanks in advance!!!

Let me be the first to welcome you back.
Some people are like Slinkies... Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

I'd give my left arm to be ambidextrous...

I understand that there is still some building going on and that people are having better success with the new company.

There is a waiting list for housing on post.  There's also a shortage of quality housing for rent off post.

There is a home in my neighborhood for rent. We are about 10 minutes from the west gate.

My husband and I are working on the remodeling contract that is going on now. We have the drywall and painting contract. They are converting two 2 story units into one huge unit. It should be plenty big enough!

Thats what I hear, but are there a few of them? Here in Alaska they did like 10 5-bedrooms out of like 300+ homes. No clue why!

Yes, there are quite a few. But I don't know what the waiting list is like. We are doing about 10-20 a month. Some are ranch style conversions, some are 2 story. But both styles are very big! 4 bedrooms, 2 living areas, recreational room which could very easily be used as an extra 2 bedrooms.

I know that the last family that lived there had three kids. I am guessing at least 3 bedrooms. I will get the realtor phone number for you tomorrow.

Welcome back.... Uncle Sam knows best (LOL).

Balfour Beatty is actually reducing the number of houses on post, based on the much greater availability of off-post housing. The Army is not supposed to be in the business of competing with private off-post businesses, which is the reason for this. But for a person with BAH to spend, I don't think there is a problem getting renting housing off-post. Buying is a whole different ball game and the best advice on that is "buyer beware." You've been here before and you know how much bad construction goes on in the civilian community -- there are good builders and bad builders, and careful is the name of the game.

We just left Fort Leonard Wood 11 months ago...PCS'ed to Alaska. Well the Army wants us back in Fort Leonard Wood!

For rentals and homes for sale by owner check out this army website:
The Automated Housing Referral Network (AHRN.com) is sponsored by the Department of Defense and is designed to improve the process of securing available housing for relocating military members and their families.

Trena, we were out "yardsaleing" on post Saturday and noticed that they had turned a bunch of the two family homes into one family ones.  They look nice except are they planning on removing the steps that used to go to the second door.  Also, I remember when people would get in trouble on post if you didn't keep your yard mowed, what has happened with that.  My gosh it looks really bad out there.
When I was young, I wanted to be older.  This is not what I expected!

LOL those steps really bug me too.Balfour Beatty said to leave them there. Yardmaster is doing the yards now and they are out here mowing everyday. It will probably take them awhile to catch up.

FYI it looks like they are completely renovating the older housing.  New windows, bathrooms, flooring, etc.  Call housing and see what the wait list looks like.

Seriously no clue!!! John wasn't a huge FOrt Leonard Wood fan...I think that was thanks to being a drill sgt. We moved to Alaska and he had to reclass because of hearing, so we finally got his MOS changed and I guess they needed him there. We thought it was all a joke at first!!! I hope this job is NOTHING like the last there!

Are you hiring?  I have been trying to find out who is doing the painting.  Where is your office?  I would like to come by and fill out an application.
