Nope, nothing was coming, had a clear view. My little 4 cylinder just does not get up and go quick. They come flying up behind me and flew right on past me. Didn't bother me any, just feeling like a lot of blame is being put on vehicles, when everyone should be careful.

I've had that happen too ... both ways.

Some people here know I rode a motorcycle in college and graduate school. (No, I'm not kidding -- I kind of enjoyed shocking people by walking into places in a black leather jacket and carrying a helmet.) One time, while pulling out of a church parking lot on Sunday afternoon, I heard squealing tires and car horns behind me and a speeding car veered into the oncoming traffic lane to avoid hitting me. I did not realize until that afternoon that there was a blind hill not far from the back parking lot of the church -- I had deliberately been exiting the back parking lot onto a less travelled road in an attempt to be safe, and I was safe as long as the drivers were going the posted speed and paying attention to what was ahead. I could not see him before pulling out and he could not see me. If that guy hadn't veered out of the way, I would be dead or severely injured. From that point on, I exited out the main entrance onto a heavily travelled road with much more traffic but also much more visibility.

And on the other hand, I've been on some really bad blind intersections where it was impossible for me in my car to see an oncoming biker. Nothing happened because I was able to quickly slam my car into reverse after pulling out into traffic and seeing a motorcyclist come into view over a hill, but if there had been somebody behind me, there is no way a crash could have been avoided unless the motorcyclist had been able to take evasive action.

Motorcycles are smaller than even the smallest cars. Especially at night, they're not always very easy to see, and some intersections that are perfectly safe for cars are much more dangerous for a motorcyclist. The good part is that a motorcyclist usually has much more maneuverability than a car, and a skilled motorcyclist will be more aware of his/her surroundings and will be able to use smaller size and greater maneuverability to his/her advantage. The bad part is that when a crash happens, the motorcyclist usually gets the worse end of the deal, even if he/she did nothing wrong.

I have killed a lot of brain cells over the years, but is this the Dee Snider that used to run Secrets?  Was in a car wreck where another individual was killed?  And she lost a leg?  My thoughts are with Jackie, Trena, and Jerry.
I happen to feel that the degree of a person's intelligence is directly reflected by the number of conflicting attitudes she can bring to bear on the same topic.

Don't post much anymore, but these incidents (not accidents-we stopped calling hunting "accidents" years ago and police now call wrecks traffic crashes) are beginning to wear on all of us. I just know that cagers need to be heads up and look more closely at approaching traffic and we as riders need to all remember they sometimes don't see us. We will all pray for Jackie and take care of him. His strength and spirit will never let him be afraid or sorry for himself. He is one of the most together young men I know and will be the same person regardless. Hang in  there Jack.

I recieved this e-mail from Jerry Morgan this morning, it is meant for Shriners, but I thought I would share it with you.

Bother Masons and Noble Shriners,

Without a doubt my Son, Jack Morgan has faced the worst tragedy of his life on July 24th, 2009 at 5:20 pm.  This tragedy in a motor vehicle versus motorcycle has changed his life forever.  But the biggest change in our families lives has been the lifting of sadness and helplessness by the strength of your prayers, thoughts, love, and over 120 visitors and many of those visitors multiple times to Jacks room and his bedside at St Johns in Springfield.    Jacks tragedy has resulted in the strongest show of love and caring for him, twin Sister (Jennifer), his Mother and I that could have only been imagined.  Jack has made such an impression on so many life's that a Father and Mother can only give thanks to our Father God for the gift of his life not only once but now for a second time.  Our God has allowed his survival for the ones that have showed such care to have him back in all our life's to continue his mission.

As many of you have seen and witnessed, Jack has come to this club and this mortal life with the biggest heart and care that would make any Parent so proud.  Jack has volunteered many hours as a young Shriner to fulfill his promise to help the children that many of us have lacked in doing so. Jack  has shown bravery and courage in his survival and loss of his lower left leg with only to be concerned as to when he can get back and help serve this club.  Jack has felt the love of God when severe and unbearable pain was lifted after just hearing from his father the sad news followed by a prayer of the required surgery to remove that lower leg.  Jack has also encouraged other new Masons to join and become New Shriners and join in on the  passion that he has for this club.  Jack needs those to understand that the club is as strong as the members who support it.

" Jack , You have touched me and made me so proud to be your Father and I hope someday I can be just like you"
love, Dad

P.S.   Please tell your love ones that last few seconds before you turn out the light, close the door, or hang up the phone how  you love them because it could have been a second to late for us.

Forever Thank You,

Noble  Jerry  and lady Shriner  Trena Morgan

*edit: I wrote this before I read the rest of the posts.  I wish I has read his father's note first because now my reply seems a bit tacky and out of sort.  Yet out of respect for a young man's reputation I feel that it must still be said so I'm leaving the rest of my post as it*

Right now, I think that the important part of this thread is that the police report has been updated and corrected and the gossip should stop now.  A good and young man has been severely injured by another driver (who isn't of the age to be classified as feable-minded) and also slandered in this town enough by not only employees of businesses that "witnessed" the entire ordeal but also by the gloated figure of 180 people in one afternoon that came into that business and it has caused much pain and animosity on the subject!

Let's just hope that Jackie has as speedy a recovery as possible with this and that his positive attitude towards life is only strenthened by this.  And that the other driver will find her own peace in the accident because it cannot be very easy for her either right now with all the banter going on.

*stepping off the soapbox now*

Rick,

We just got word that Jack is being discharged.  His Doctor has said his immediate actions of having the pain pump removed and up and walking with a walker less than 24 hours later has set an impression on the whole unit.  Jack wants to go home and be in his bed tonight.
