CROCKER, Mo. (Oct. 13, 2009) — The Crocker community has been hit by a series of flu cases so numerous that the school district shut down classes for the rest of the week and the city council cancelled its session tonight because too many aldermen need to stay home with sick children. Crocker R-I School District bookkeeper Stephanie Knudsen said 170 of the district’s 540 students called in sick on Tuesday with flu-like symptoms, along with seven teachers. Rather than trying to hold classes with large numbers of students and teachers unavailable, district officials decided today to cancel classes until next week Monday. No other district in the Fort Leonard Wood area has experienced a similar number of flu cases and none have plans to cancel classes.
