Rep. Day Secures Over 5.5 Million in Funding ForWaynesville Technical Academy Jefferson City – The Waynesville Technical Academy will be the beneficiary of some additional funding thanks to the efforts of Rep. David Day, R-Dixon. Rep. Day was able to insert over 5.5 million dollars for the school into an appropriations bill (HB 2023) passed by the Missouri General Assembly and that is now on its way to the governor’s desk to be signed into law. The bill approved by both chambers will allocate $5,750,000 in funding to the vocational education facility. The money is meant for use in retrofitting a building located adjacent to the Waynesville High School which will become the new Waynesville Career Center.“The Waynesville Career Center will be a state of the art facility, an enormous asset to the district and those we serve, our community and our many students” said Dr. Judene Blackburn, Superintendent of the Waynesville School District. “We are pleased to have received assistance in funding this important project and send a huge “thank you” to Rep. Day and all of those who have worked so hard to provide such support” concluded Blackburn“I am excited that we were able to get this bill passed before session ended so that schools across this state will have some of the additional dollars they desperately need,” said Rep. Day. “The Waynesville Technical Academy has produced so many skilled workers for our area and all areas of this state. It is in our best interest to do everything we can to support the school and I am glad I was able to work with both House and Senate members to ensure they receive essential funding. Special thanks go to my friend Rod Jetton, the Speaker of the House, who toured the academy with me last fall and saw the great things the school is doing.”Waynesville Technical Academy has provided area young people, male and female, apprentice-like training opportunities since 1970. The Academy is part of the Waynesville R-VI School District and serves the Waynesville, St. Robert and Ft. Leonard Wood Community in addition to several area high schools.Appropriation Bills must originate in the House of Representatives. House Bill 2023 was approved by both the House and Senate. It is now on its way to Governor Matt Blunt who will sign it into law. The money appropriated in the bill is for Fiscal Year 2009 which begins July 1, 2008.
